Low confidence doesn’t happen all at once. It build over time until you’ve created a huge weight that keeps you from feeling good. Similarly, you can build your self image back up and overcome self-doubt in simple ways. Check out these steps to increase confidence in yourself again!

1. Get rid of negative thoughts

It may seem trite, but thinking positively helps your self confidence. Clear away your negative self talk. Focusing on what you can’t do makes you start to believe it. Instead, focus on what you can do, and what you’re good at. Tell yourself you’re a good person, and believe that instead.

2. Groom yourself and dress nicely

Even if you work from home, or don’t want to cake on makeup and product to keep your skin healthy, you can practice small routines to help you feel good. This can even be as simple as a shower with a good-smelling soap.

3. Make a list of your accomplishments

Rather than focusing on everything you haven’t done, write a list of the tough things you’ve gotten through in your life. This could be hard physical challenges or extreme deadlines at work you not only met but succeeded at.

4. Do something you’ve been procrastinating

That chore or project weighing on your mind? Do it first thing in the morning or when you get home from work. It may be a hard task, but it will no longer weigh on you. You’ll feel great for getting it out of the way.

5. Prepare for challenges

Meeting deadlines before they become a stressor–like studying for an exam, or doing what you can to catch up at work prior to a major project–can help your confidence. You’ll know that you can do better on these challenges if you prepare for them.

6. Be kind to others

Being generous with yourself, your actions, and your thoughts will help your self-image. This can include service, which helps you feel like a good person. You can also show simple gratitude towards others to increase their confidence and yours.

Also, try positive thoughts about other motorists, such as “She’s late to work too,” or “He’s just on his way to pick up his stranded daughter.” You’ll spare yourself precious moments you would have spent fuming about their actions.

7. Get to know yourself

Analyze yourself and your actions. You can figure out why your confidence feels low or why you do certain things. Then, work on improving them. You can also find what you really like and what your limits are–and whether you put them on yourself.

8. Set small goals

While big goals are good to have, setting and keeping small goals will help you feel accomplished. Small change is less stressful and therefore easier to accomplish. You can even apply these to your daily life–like waking up ten minutes earlier until it becomes a habit.

9. Practice

Don’t let yourself feel untalented, even if you’ve put an end to the negative self talk. Take small steps, like writing a little bit every day rather than taking on a novel all at once. You can even apply this to learning a skill you’ve always wanted to acquire.

10. Clear your desk or room

Clean up just one small space, whether it’s your bedroom or your desk. Clearing away even small amounts of chaos will help you feel in control. You’ll create an area where you can have peace even amid chaos.
