For many holiday travelers, leaving home also means leaving behind healthy habits as well. It’s during the holidays that we make tiny compromises to our health goals which eventually ruin our resolutions; and what do we tell ourselves once we’ve failed to follow through on our diet or exercise goals? I’ll try again next year.

Break the cycle; stick to your goals this year, especially if you’re joining the herd of holiday travelers. Here are our recommendations for healthy snacks that you can find at any gas station or airport.

Nuts

Almonds, peanuts, pistachios; they’re packed with nutrients that will sustain you during your journey and help you overcome cravings.

Fruit

Ever notice that basket full of fruit right by the checkout of every gas station and airport store? Sometimes we turn a blind eye to it as we purchase our candy and soda, but consider buying an apple, orange or banana next time you’re given the chance.

Natural sugars and vitamins won’t just get you through the trip, they’ll make you want to have a good time once you get there.

Greek Yogurt

“Caffeine breaks” are a popular stop for holiday travelers, but what your body actually craves is natural energy like protein rich Greek yogurt. The low sugar content in Greek yogurt makes it a great source of lasting energy.

Protein Bar

Along the same lines as Greek yogurt, a Cliff or Luna bar is a great snack for when you’re on the go. Seek out protein bars that are low in sugar; a recommended ratio 20 grams of protein and less than 7 grams of sugar.

Water

Water is essential for flushing any non-nutrients out of your system, which is vital for most holiday travelers since they typically choose processed food. Sipping water also requires fewer bathroom breaks, which is really helpful when you’re on the road.

Travel safe and stay healthy this holiday season!
