2015 has been an exciting year of medical breakthroughs, and we are grateful for the hard work and brilliant minds that have brought them about.

There have been so many advancements in the past year that we’ve had a hard time only picking a few. Please share you favorite medical breakthroughs in the comments.

Early Alzheimer’s Detection

Researchers at Georgetown University have designed a blood test that can predict if healthy individuals will develop Alzheimer’s sometime during their next three years. While there still is no cure for Alzheimer’s, there are treatments that can slow its progression. Early detection could save many lives and loads of heartbreak.

New Breast Cancer Therapy

One in four cancer patients are diagnosed with breast cancer, and for years it has been treated the some way. Radiation is the first course of action when treating most cancers, but it is very taxing on the patient and there is not guarantee of success.

A new, less invasive radiation technique has been developed this year. This new technique only targets the tumors in the breast and is much more comfortable for cancer patients.

Mind Controlled Prosthesis

For many years, prosthetic limbs weren’t a very practical option of amputees and people born without major limbs. They were uncomfortable and unwieldy, but these individuals will soon know what it’s like to have functioning limbs that they control themselves…with their minds.

Developed by DARPA, these highly advanced prosthesis are expected to change the course of history. Working models are already being tested for production.
