At Mountain Peaks Family Practice we believe in “total health”; that means taking care of our bodies, but also exercising our minds and managing our emotions. A combination of daily mental and physical stimulation is necessary for achieving total health.

Meditate

Everyone with a spare 10 minutes should learn how to meditate. Although it may look like you’re trying to fall asleep while sitting up, meditation offers a variety of health benefits such as: reduced stress, lower blood pressure and better sleep.

Take Probiotics

A healthy digestive system is key to achieving total health. Taking probiotics assists with digestion and helps rid your body of the unwanted types of bacteria that make you feel groggy or nauseous.

Eat More Fiber

Fiber seems to be the “cure all” of foods, but that’s pretty close to the truth. Studies show that those who increased their daily fiber intake had more energy, and even lived longer.

Daily benefits of fiber are: regulated digestion,  reduced inflammation, reduced blood pressure, reduced risk for diabetes, and lowers bad cholesterol.

Eat Greens

A good practice is to eat something green at every meal. Leafy greens are packed with antioxidants, and are considered the best cancer-preventing foods known to man. They also assist digestion and weight management.

If you can’t include greens with every meal, consider supplementing them with spirulina.

Sweat

If being physically healthy is important to you, then you will find time to sweat. 30 minutes of high intensity interval training is all you need to reduce your risk of heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.

A short, daily workout will also boost your confidence, relieve stress and give you energy throughout your day.

These are simple things that everyone can fit into their day. If you want to make some healthy changes in your life but are unsure how, come see us at Mountain Peaks Family Practice. We’d love to help you reach the goal of total health.
