Did you know that your skin is an organ? It is your body’s largest organ, and is your body’s first line of defense against disease and infection. Your skin does a great job of taking care of you, so it’s  important that you take care of it.

Practice Proper Skin Care

Proper skin care is a must if you are going to preserve your body’s protective layer. Without the proper skin care your body is vulnerable to all sorts of threatening diseases.

Skin care should include:

  • Applying SPF 30 sunscreen while outside, and reapplying at least every half hour.
  • Moisturizing at least once a day to reduce cracks in the skin where harmful bacteria can enter.
  • Practicing basic hygiene.
  • Eating fruits and vegetable to maintain a constant stream of nutrients.

Many people are surprised that eating fruits and vegetables every day is included in skin care, but it makes sense when you realize that your skin is the last organ in your body to receive nutrition value from your food, so eating highly nutritious food makes sure that their are enough nutrients in your body to go around.

Even if you practice proper skin care, it is still important to examine yourself for threatening skin conditions, such as:

Melanoma

Melanoma are a sign of skin cancer. They form when skin cells begin to mutate into cancer cells, and typically look like misshapen or miss-colored moles.

Images for melanoma can be disturbing, but you can view actual photos here.

Sebaceous Cyst

Sebaceous cysts form when the sebaceous glands in your skin are damaged or blocked, allowing oil and sebum to build up until they form a bump on the skin. They are common, but highly treatable.
