How membership works

A simpler way to receive primary care.

Direct Primary Care removes insurance billing from everyday primary care. In its place is one monthly membership, paid to the practice, that covers the primary care we provide here. That change is administrative. What it buys is time.

What membership pays for

Your monthly membership covers the primary care Mountain Peaks provides in this office: routine visits, preventive and wellness care, management of ongoing conditions, and the everyday communication that keeps small questions from becoming urgent ones. There are no copays for included services.

Some things carry a separate, clearly posted cost, such as certain labs, vaccines, medications and procedures. Members pay transparent member pricing for those.

It also includes the Mountain Peaks member app: schedule a visit, message your care provider, and view your records, prescriptions and lab results from your phone.

What membership does not replace

Membership is not health insurance and does not work like insurance. It does not cover hospital care, emergency care, specialist visits, imaging centers, surgery or anything provided outside this practice.

Members should keep appropriate coverage for those situations. Many members pair membership with a plan that protects them against large medical costs. Mountain Peaks cannot advise you on which plan to choose.

Mountain Peaks membership is not health insurance. Patients should maintain appropriate coverage for hospitalization, emergency care, specialists and services outside the practice.

Common questions about the model

Do I still need insurance?

Yes, in most circumstances. Membership covers primary care at Mountain Peaks. Insurance protects you against the cost of hospitalization, emergencies, specialists and care delivered elsewhere. Keeping appropriate coverage is your decision, and we recommend discussing it with a licensed advisor.

Can I use my insurance for labs, imaging or specialists?

Mountain Peaks does not bill insurance; this is a membership model. Providers we refer you to, including outside laboratories, imaging centers and specialists, may bill your insurance as usual. Tests and vaccines provided here are charged at transparent member pricing, quoted before you agree.

What about Medicare or Medicaid?

Membership works the same way for every member, whatever your coverage, including Medicare and Medicaid. Mountain Peaks is a membership practice and does not bill insurance, Medicare or Medicaid for the primary care included in membership. Providers we refer you to, such as laboratories, imaging centers and specialists, may bill your insurance, Medicare or Medicaid as usual.

Is there a contract or a minimum term?

No. Membership is month to month with no long-term contract. You may cancel with 30 days' notice, or before your next billing date. Re-enrollment is always welcome; a $100 re-enrollment fee applies.
